Mother’s Day at Trade as One

May 08, 2009 @ 03:45 PM

It’s T-Minus 31 hours until Mother’s Day, and we couldn’t be happier about it. Our Moms are incredible, and it is pretty easy to shop for fair trade Mother’s Day gifts when you work in a warehouse full of them. So we got that going for us.

As we’ve been preparing for Mother’s Day, we’ve realized that so much of what we do here seems to come back to mothers. So many of you have bought gifts for your moms. Many of our most loyal customers are mothers themselves. Many of you are so passionate about fair trade because the thought of a woman that can’t take care of her kids because she’s trapped in poverty breaks your heart.

Perhaps most importantly, many of the people making the items we sell are Mothers themselves. They want nothing more than a chance to give their children a way out of desperation, and fair trade gives them that chance.

There’s something beautiful about people here in America purchasing Mother’s Day gifts that allow Mothers in the developing world to take care of their kids. Those are the kinds of things that keep us going. So on behalf of everyone here at Trade as One, and on behalf of the Fair Trade Mothers making your gifts, Happy Mother’s Day.

My friends and I love everything about “Trade as One”.  On this Mother’s Day 2009, it’s a joy to read about people who are doing something about injustice and exploitation among the world’s poor.

As partners in “Pockets of Dreams” based in San Jose, CA, we join hands and hearts with you in working to provide opportunity and a better life for women and children without political clout or voice.  The Pockets of Dreams dresses come with seven pockets that represent a dream every child should have come true.  Those dreams are for love, family, friends, education, health, wealth and opporutnity.  Moreover, we provide seed money for women to begin their own sewing business.  (http://www.pocketsofdreams.com

Thank you for all you do!  Together, with many of us contributing, we can make a big difference to people who are truly not so different from us.
